On June 17th, the Synergic Center hosted a special semiquincentennial event – the Liberty Tree dedication and 250 Celebration. The event brought together elected officials, community groups, and more to highlight the planting on the Princeton Elm Tree, known as the Liberty Tree.
The history of the Liberty Tree dates back to the 1700s when the Sons of Liberty first gathered to protest the Stamp Act. To commemorate 250 years, the State of Alabama gave each county a Liberty Tree, along with a plaque. When fully grown, the tree will have a canopy of 60ft and be a focal point on the Synergic property.
History education is one of Synergic’s five strategic priorities, and housing our county’s liberty tree will provide an opportunity for residents and guests to learn more about county and country’s history. In addition to the Liberty Tree, Synergic also houses heritage hall which highlights the history of west Alabama as well as the Exchange Club’s Freedom Shrine.
In addition to the Liberty Tree, the event featured the semiquincentennial quilt. The quilt, crafted locally, highlights many unique aspects of our community.
